Siklu Communication develops and manufactures wireless backhaul solutions that support 4G/LTE and broadband bandwidth requirements. The company has several manufacturing locations.
In order to maintain its competitiveness Siklu’s top management pays a lot of attention to reducing costs, lean manufacturing and improving performance.
Managing several manufacturing lines for complex products proved to be a frustrating process for Siklu’s management. From the CEO down to VP R&D and operation managers, Siklu were hampered by the lack of visibility they had with respect to statistical data extracted from their own test equipment and manufacturing lines. They decided to leverage their existing Database which contained a huge amount of data compiled from the various test units situated on their manufacturing lines.
They then faced a choice. Whether to build a custom solution, or to bring in an existing, third party solution..
Siklu’s IT manager carried out market research and selected a shortlist of candidate providers to present their solutions. Among them was QualityLine. After the first meeting, Siklu decided that QualityLine was the only provider that even came close to meeting their needs. Out of the box, QualityLine was able to solve more than 85% of Siklu’s requirements.
This was a no brainer as they immediately knew it would be easier to use an existing platform than developing their own from scratch.
In less than two weeks the integration process was complete, and QualityLine technology started to capture and analyze real time data from Siklu’s manufacturing lines.
“We were blind. QualityLine solution opened our eyes” says Moshe Levinson, Siklu’s Engineering manager. “With QualityLine technology Siklu managed to increase First Yield from 65% to 90% within four (4) months”.
“Before starting to work with the QualityLine solution, quality problems were “chasing” us. Today we are chasing the problems and rapidly fixing them” adds Kosta, the Quality Manager at Siklu and explains: “We have full visibility of the complete data collected on the entire manufacturing line from all the stations, in real time. We now control the end-to-end process, and we have the option to carry out root cause analysis instantly, without any delays”.
Kosta adds, “The results were immediate. On my first meeting after we implemented QualityLine with our contract manufacturer, I was able to show them that the data they provided me was wrong”.
Siklu team recognized they are now saving not only resources, but also time. A lot of time! Kosta estimates that implementing QualityLine freed 65%-70% of his time. “I now fix problems instead of spending my time trying to find them”. This also allowed his manager, Moshe, to concentrate in developing better test procedures analyzing the large amount of data he can now actually use. Moshe estimates QualityLine freed up more than 50% of his own time.
Kosta says that when Siklu’s VP R&D calls him and alerts him of a problem on the line, he now usually replies with “I know. I am already working on it”. Moshe adds that “Today we know about faults in the line, which without QualityLine, we wouldn’t have even known existed”.
“I use my smartphone to look at the analytical dashboard first thing in the morning and I know at a glance if any station is not performing optimally. I can immediately contact our contract manufacturer and tell them to shut down a faulty test machine, even before I arrive at the office”, says Kosta.
